We are creating a new ‘Design’ function to provide more focus and accountability for the development of new services. The Network Technical Architect is an integral role within the ‘Design’ acting as a senior Design Authority to ensure our approach to new projects and services is fully aligned with our vision and strategy – and that implemented services are successfully handed over to the Platform Operations function.
The Platform Architect role is responsible for:
Development of High-Level platform designs and specification of Network technologies which deliver best value and enhance the UKCloud platform by supporting new and improved services/capabilities
Design and specification of new technologies that the organisation may wish to adopt or productise to customers which support business strategies & goals
Design and specification of solutions to meet specific customer led opportunities
Work within the Office of the CTO (OCTO) and determine Platform strategy and roadmap
Research new vendors, technologies and solutions to validate capabilities and ensure appropriate levels of assurance
Champion new technologies and solutions
Perform technical evaluations and proof of concepts
Consider and incorporate security into all aspects of design
Provide guidance and assistance to members of the Platforms team where required
Defining standards, policy, processes and best practice in collaboration with other architecture teams and design authorities and share/publicise this knowledge
Knowledge / skills / experience
In-depth experience of network technologies, such as: LAN, WAN, Datacentre Networking, Telecoms and Global Cloud Provider connectivity, SDN and Network Security
Awareness with cloud provider ecosystems, including Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure
Experience with multivendor solutions across a broad portfolio of technologies and products
