As a key part of the UKCloud three-year business plan to grow our business by delivering Trusted Multi-Cloud Services to Public Sector, we are looking for experienced IT leaders to join the team and drive the efficiency and effectiveness required to achieve our ambitious goals.


Purpose of Role:

- Responsible to manage one or more individuals providing oversight, evaluation and coaching of individual’s contribution, performance, and development.

- Managers are the first point of contact for their direct reports. This role requires the ability to effectively liaise and relay information between senior leaders, HR, and the team.

- Ensuring all team members have purpose, clear goals, and understand how their work contributes to the wider UKCloud objectives.

- Direct reports may work across multiple teams. Consistency in individual’s management is essential, irrespective of the team the manager represents. It is the role of the line manager to ensure individuals understand their responsibilities.   

- In addition to line management responsibilities, this role includes providing an active “hands-on” function to deliver day to day operations aligned to your business area.  The specific day to day tasks will differ depending on the functional skills of the job holder but it is expected that there should be an even balance between these two functions.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

Individuals’ performance monitoring

  1. Ensuring objectives are clear and understood. 
  2. Lead meetings and 1-2-1’s to monitor individuals’ progress against objectives
  3. Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure individuals develop and achieve their maximum potential
  4. Identify knowledge gaps, training needs and support individuals to get the required training.

Individual management 

  1. Support individuals to ensure they are best able to carry out their role
  2. Address below standard performance to ensure overall UKCloud quality standards
  3. Conduct and document annual reviews and personal development plans

Resource planning & utilisation

  1. Input to resource and skills talent planning
  2. Conduct interviews to recruit
  3. Induct and settle new starters
  4. Follow Company disciplinary process if required
  5. Report on individual and team resource utilisation for committed and planned work.  

Well-being

  1. Monitor individual and overall team health through the different types of closely interlinked well-being states. This should consider where possible mental well-being, physical well-being, economic well-being, and emotional well-being.  

Best practice & standards

  1. Ensure both UKCloud and specific team policies and standards are adhered to e.g., change / security etc.
  2. Contribute to the Practice focus to achieve adherence to the agreed standards and facilitate an environment of continuous improvement.  Contribute to and ensure it is implemented consistently across their team
  3. Prepare, evaluate, and maintain updates to standard process documents for daily operations and those processes governing team performance
  4. Ensure ongoing management of activities in support of process, audits people and admin documentation.

Communication: 

  1. Actively contribute to the Management forum and ways of working, and communicate messaging in a positive, impactful, and timely manner
  2. Communicate mission, vision, and values and what this means to direct reports
  3. Promote and be an example to direct reports and the wider Company as living our values and culture.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

Analytical – Ability to analyse performance related data providing visibility beyond conversation with direct reports

Evaluative – Ability to evaluate data to prompt problem solving. E.g., compare projects with heavy intervention, what happened when the goalposts moved, what impact training had

Organised – Strong organisation skills as a means of enabling clear communication and efficiency.  This will allow people to be clear about what's expected of them daily and longer-term. The ability to structure your team's time at work, so that you engender security and the flexibility to relax into their role and focus on the task at hand, whilst ensuring clear understanding of what is required e.g., related to governance activities

Communicative – Excellent and clear communicator (written, verbal and visual) with the ability to act as a translator and mediator. Ability to timely cascading of information and where the cascaded information is not clear, to communicate upwards to ask for meaning, e.g., Why is the strategy changing? Will job security be affected? When do the changes need to happen?
