Role Purpose:

The Azure Engineer works as part of the Azure team to deliver exceptional services to our customers as they manage, maintain and operate customer’s hybrid Azure environments.  The role operates alongside other functional teams including Availability Management, Capacity Planning, Lifecycle Management, Transition to Support, Security and Problem Management.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly engage with customers to de-risk and accelerate deployments in Azure and validating architectures through design reviews as well as provide learnings and feedback to the Product Group
  • Help customers migrate and/or build workloads throughout their Azure journey toward production and expanding their cloud footprint
  • Support Azure Solution Architects as subject matter experts to scope and build customer facing content, tools and proof of concepts
  • Interact daily with 1st Line Support, NOC and SOC Leads to provide technical action plans or take ownership of situations that require escalation
  • Ensure that Azure is a cloud platform that meets customer needs, by partnering with product groups to prioritize customer feedback and issues
  • Take 2nd / 3rd line ownership of live incidents to drive rapid and safe resolution and following up to ensure repeats are mitigated or eliminated
  • Assist the Service Director and Product Management with the design and development of new Azure products, solutions and services to high standards
  • Actively engage with other project and technical teams to improve cross-working/team knowledge
  • Write supporting documentation for design, configuration and on-going support
  • Maintain technical knowledge of current technical trends and standards
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert level support when needed, including leadership of technical investigations and education on all things Azure for the UKCloud employees.
  • Represent the team at cross functional activities (CAB, DSR, Scrum planning, Service Acceptance, periodical and ad hoc reporting etc.) and delivering actioned items in a timely manner
  • Provide input into both high and low level design (HLD & LLD) documentation when required 

 

Authority/Decision Making:

  • Delivery of enhancements and innovations to agreed Roadmap
  • Improvements of automation, monitoring and proactivity in capability
  • Respond to/Provide customer feedback from Customer Surveys, Account Directors and Technical Account Managers

 

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Essential experience includes:
    1. Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or higher
    2. A broad generalist infrastructure specialist with a progressive track record in Azure cloud platform delivery.
    3. Expert knowledge of the Azure platform – IaaS / PaaS / SaaS/ Azure Storage / Azure Migrate
    4. Extensive recent hands-on experience architecting, building, optimising and managing the lifecycle of Azure-based IaaS and PaaS solutions. To include Azure SQL, Resource Groups, VMs, NSG, Logic Apps, Azure Analysis Services, Storage Accounts, Key Vault, Azure AD Authentication, Managed Identities, App Registrations and associated technologies
    5. Solid experience building out monitoring and alerting requirements (Azure Monitor/Log Analytics/Dashboards) and diagnosing issues and risks through appropriate KQL analysis
    6. Comfortable with scripting and automation to deploy, manage, orchestrate (PowerShell, Azure Automation, ARM templates, REST API)
    7. Demonstrable background in network implementation, security and troubleshooting: IP Addressing; DHCP; VLAN; Trunk Ports; QoS; Filtering/Access Control; VPN Services; ExpressRoute
    8. Security Operations Management experience: VM hardening, patching, implementing security advisor recommendations, log analysis, Azure AD identity optimisation, Conditional Access Policies, MFA, experience supporting/configuring Azure Sentinel
    9. Strong knowledge in Identity Management – Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Azure AD Connect

 

  • Desirable experience would include:
    1. Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-104 + AZ-305) or (AZ-303 + AZ-304/305) certifications
    2. Experience of deploying and maintaining Azure Stack (Hub & HCI) services
    3. Experience of Azure Arc to manage resources outside of Public Azure
    4. Experience of deploying Azure VMware Solution (AVS)
    5. Experience with Azure Lighthouse
    6. Experience with DevOps concepts in cloud environment
    7. Experience with Azure DevOps
    8. Experience with implementing and administering Microsoft 365 Defender Suite - 365, Identity, Endpoint, MCAS, Azure, SQL, Security Center Reviews and Exchange Online Protection Suite

 

  • Strong written and oral communication. Systematic and organised.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, working under pressure and produce high quality
  • Ability to present technical issues and solutions to a variety of audiences 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and across multi-functional teams
  • Embrace and champion the use of automation across the platform
  • Strong coaching and mentoring of support engineers
