In June 2021, we launched the UKCloud Partner Charter. We believe the pledges within the charter are not just the right thing to do but make strong business sense.

Following the introduction of the Social Value Act 2012, new measures to deliver value to society through public procurement were announced in January 2021. These new measures, known collectively as the Social Value Model, look to promote new jobs and skills, encourage economic growth and prosperity, tackle climate change and level up the UK. The new approach will mean more opportunities for SMEs and social enterprises to win Government contracts. Businesses seeking to win these contracts must set out how they will deliver on the government’s social value priorities, which will act as a key evaluation criterion (a minimum of 10% of the overall score) within the assessment of all contracts.
A recent news article published by the Cabinet Office and Julia Lopez MP confirms that all commercial teams in all government departments will be expected to complete training courses in implementing the new model and how to ensure the maximum social value is derived from each contract. The changes mean that central government will now be required to go further than the Social Value Act 2012, to ensure that all major procurements explicitly evaluate social value, where appropriate, rather than just consider it.
UKCloud believes that the Social Value Model presents a genuine opportunity to improve the health, wealth and mental wellbeing of our nation. On a local level, it has the potential to maximise social, economic, and environmental benefits all whilst putting UK business at the heart of a post-Brexit, post-COVID recovery strategy.
As a partner of UKCloud, you likely not only share our technology vision and commitment to public sector, but also a belief in the role technology can play in addressing broader societal challenges. These common values are integral to how we work and achieve success together. To further strengthen our partnership, UKCloud have teamed up with the Social Value Business to create a Social Value Charter. We believe the pledges within the charter are not just the right thing to do but make strong business sense. UKCloud are therefore asking all of our partners to sign the Partner Charter which focuses on the following pledges.
Supporting COVID-19 recovery
Helping local communities manage and recover from the impact of COVID, through the delivery of impact-driven innovative technology.
Tackling economic inequality
Joining our efforts to create new digital jobs and skills, as well as increasing supply chain resilience
Fighting climate change
Reducing carbon emissions in support of the UK’s net-zero emissions pledge
Reducing waste
Minimising the amount of e-waste sent to landfill through the refurbishment and repurposing of technology
Driving equal opportunity
Tackling workforce inequality and improving the health and wellbeing of the local community
Partners seeking to win Government contracts can leverage UKCloud’s social value credentials through supply chain procurement. The Model Award Criteria (MAC) as detailed within the Social Value Model, recognises resilient, diverse, innovative and collaborative supply chains and places them at the heart of government’s Industrial and Civil Society Strategies.
As our partner community are already holding UKCloud to higher standards of accountability through the delivery of a sustainable technology strategy, our social value credentials remain an exemplar to the technology sector and will be recognised by local and central government as part of your procurement strategy.
In conjunction with the Social Value Business, UKCloud will host two workshops a year for our partner community, in order to detail:
The Social Value Business is the home of the only Social Value Quality Mark to be recognised across the UK and Europe. It enables our partners to demonstrate independent accreditation and recognition within the public sector for the social value it creates.
By aligning your social value activities to those detailed in UKCloud’s Social Value Charter, partners will be able to measure and legitimise their social impact.
If you agree and share our vision and passion, we invite you to sign our Partner Charter and work with UKCloud to help the UK public sector thrive in this exciting transitionary period. To confirm your pledge to the charter, please fill in the form
