UKCloud are one of a handful of SMEs to have been awarded a coveted position on Lot1d of the Data and Application Solutions (DAS) framework to provide software and professional services to deliver data-driven business outcomes.

London – 28th February 2019 – UKCloud, the multi-cloud experts dedicated to making transformation happen across UK public sector, has today announced that they have been successful in winning a position on the Data and Application Solutions (DAS) government framework which has a maximum value of £2,850m and went live last week.

Organisations are using new technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, ‘Smart’ devices & cities and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create data at an unprecedented rate. A recent Gartner survey found that business intelligence and data analytics are the top priority for investment by government CIOs in 2019 which makes the new DAS framework especially relevant and timely. The framework enables UKCloud to more easily deliver data and application solutions, combined with its diverse partner community, to ultimately provide software and services that help public sector organisations achieve innovative outcomes.

One example of this is Genomics England who has been working with UKCloud to deliver its 100,000 Genomes Project – the largest national sequencing project of its kind in the world. The project has sequenced the DNA of 100,000 rare disease and cancer patients with a view to gaining far greater insight into the diseases and how they could be treated. The solution was built from the ground up over time to cater for the ever-changing needs of the programme. As Genomics England transitions to the National Genomic Medicine Service, it is expected to grow by 5x over the next 5 years.

The platform delivered by UKCloud consists of a High Performance Compute (HPC) cluster, 20PB of high-speed network attached storage (NAS) and a large-scale Hadoop cluster for data processing and analytics across large datasets.

The combination of these technologies allows Genomics England and collaborators from industry and academia to analyse the data quickly and effectively to provide insights into different diseases, treatments and genetic traits. “Working with UKCloud allowed Genomics England to implement a service to process whole genome sequences against challenging timescales,” says Dave Brown, Head of Infrastructure, Genomics England.

“Our experience in big data and analytics with large organisations such as Genomics England and partnering with specialists such as ROC Technologies to provide a sovereign platform for Robotic Process Automation providers like Blue Prism makes UKCloud the compelling choice for anyone looking for these types of solutions – especially for sensitive datasets” said Leighton James, CTO at UKCloud.

Data and Application Solutions (DAS) is the first Crown Commercial Service framework to give customers the choice to buy cloud and on-premise software or a combination of both under one agreement and therefore makes it easy for public sector organisations to access UKCloud’s expertise and insight across technologies such as Big Data, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Internet of Things and Robotic Process Automation. UKCloud is one of only six SME’s to be awarded a position within Lot 1d of the framework (Data Intelligence and Analytics).

As a UK sovereign SME, UKCloud has supported more than 250 digital transformation projects across public sector via various Crown Commercial Service frameworks including Technology Services 2 (TS2) and G-Cloud, as well as via its large ecosystem of partners, so is delighted to add the DAS framework as another route for customers to engage their services. UKCloud’s experts are available to all public sector organisations to explore how they can benefit from Data and Analytic solutions via a free workshop or jumpstart service.
