The Service Director is a key part of UKCloud Operational Leadership Team (OLT). You will have demonstrable experience acting in a lead role in the delivery of a complex IT product, programme or service line (in this case the Microsoft portfolio of products and enabling technologies such as Azure, Azure Stack Hub, Azure Stack Edge, Cloud Service Provider licensing and Office 365/Microsoft 365). You will use your expertise to develop and maintain actionable plans and roadmaps for your Service Family. The Service Director is supported by Practice Leads for Engineering, Deployment and Operations to create a balanced set of innovations and improvements. The Service Director works closely with a Project Manager to plan and deliver the approved set of work. The Service Director works closely with a Portfolio Manager to provide the external perspective of the service (e.g. market insight, pricing, packaging, etc).
Key Responsibilities
- Works with the Practice Lead’s from Engineering, Deployment and Operations to define the roadmap of new and improved capabilities provided by the service family – balancing BAU/unplanned work with planned work
- Accountable for service strategy, accreditations and technology vendor relationships
- Tracks and Reports team velocity and works with Practice Directors to forward plan for any requirements (training, recertification etc.)
- Accountable for reporting the performance of the products in their service family
- Works across Practice Directors to ensure 360 complement of resources and outcomes in delivery domain
- Works with the portfolio manager/director to agree the vision and strategy for the service family – understanding who our customer is and why this service family meets their needs
Essential skills
- Highly organised – a good planner
- Passionate about delivering technology enabled services to meet customer needs
- Excellent and clear communicator (written, verbal and visual)
- Experience coaching others to adopt best practice
- Ability to lead governance activities
- Experience with Azure powered platforms at scale (ideally with appropriate Microsoft certification or similar)
