Farnborough, Hampshire

We are looking for experienced and talented QA engineers who will act as a key hands-on resource to design, implement and execute tests against software and UKCloud services in the pursuit of increased quality. The role is heavily focused on the design and development of automated tests with freedom to use manual tests where that is most beneficial.

We have a small team of QA Engineers today and we’re looking to grow to complement our new CI and CD processes. We are building fully integrated and automated testing systems from the ground up. As you might expect, our testing covers feature/function regression tests, performance testing, integration and security. We use a mixture of open source and home grown tools, with Java based tests forming the backbone of our emerging test suites. As with our Software Engineers, you may not know everything we’ve touched on here – and it doesn’t matter if you don’t – the right people matter most to us.

What we are looking for are QA Engineers that:

  • Are able to devise test strategies around projects; equally able to get write the tests
  • Enjoy working as part of a SCRUM Team; often as the QA Engineer on the Team; equally keen to be part of the growing QA community.
  • Are curious – we are learning all the time and we want you to bring your current skill set (which may fill gaps in our knowledge) and learn with us
  • Have technical humility – we have some great people here, and they want to be better
  • Love seeing their software running on production servers
  • Innately think about extensibility, documentation and automation
  • Do a good day’s work and can have some fun along the way
  • Ideally have experience of JAVA or Python or will be learning these!

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective testing of software and services during project/development to capture and thereby reduce defects passing to production
  • Engage and contribute to our test and defect management strategy to improve delivery quality
  • Create/implement efficient and maintainable test suites with associated test cases and scripts
  • Implement and help maintain necessary tooling for automated testing, e.g. Selenium
  • When required, utilise manual QA to ensure quality of non-automatable components / runs
  • Coach, guide and support the teams in modern agile testing practices, for example automated testing in a CI/CD environment
  • Assist in bridging communications gaps between development, testing and product owners. Actively seek to translate non-technical business requirements into technical tests that support their intended value

Skills and Experience Required

Essential

  • Experience with test management and source control solutions e.g. GIT, Cucumber, Selenium
  • Hands-on testing automation experience including implementation of automation frameworks
  • Proven experience of testing web-based applications and headless services/APIs
  • Practical experience in agile software development environments
  • Strong test automation programming experience, ideally Java or Python. Further languages highly desirable
  • Exposure to test-driven development environments (BDD desirable)

Desirable

  • Proven experience of testing infrastructure and other non-GUI applications
  • Proven experience of testing application performance, security and integration
  • ISEB / ISTQB-BCS Tester Foundation Certified or greater
