UKCloud has a unique and exciting opportunity for an OpenStack Platform Architect to take the lead in the design and implementation of our next generation Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) Cloud Computing Platforms powered by OpenStack.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as the OpenStack technical design authority for UKCloud’s Cloud Computing Platforms; supporting Product Management and Service Operations to ensure their functionality, availability, performance and security.
- Perform and oversee the evaluation and implementation of new or updated OpenStack components to ensure the robust product lifecycle management including the delivery of new functionality, capacity, releases and service packs.
- Assist with architecting OpenStack solutions for client deployment projects.
- Escalation point to Operations for 4th line OpenStack support.
- Determine standards and supporting documentation for design, configuration, monitoring, management and on-going OpenStack support.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- OpenStack design and implementation
- Expert level understanding of the OpenStack DefCore Projects
- Significant experience of:
- OpenStack sub-components (e.g. MySQL, RabbitMQ, Pacemaker, etc.)
- Distributed object storage technologies (e.g. Swift, Ceph)
- Linux administration
- Python scripting
- REST APIs
- Provisioning, orchestration and automation of cloud-based environments
- Chef and/or Puppet desirable
- Strong problem solving experience, able to work through issues and find resolutions
- Excellent planning, communication and presentation skills; client facing skills would be desirable
- Disciplined, organised and self-motivated
- Stakeholder management experience highly desirable; able to work across teams and technical coach, mentor and provide the expertise to internal teams
