About the Role
Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, these roles are the point of escalation for the Operations team to access 3rd line support and solutions delivery on client deployment projects.
We are looking for people who do not want to be restricted by a single technology, people who want to learn and be passionate in driving innovation within the G-Cloud space.
You will proactively administer, analyse, trend and troubleshoot specific issues within UKCloud’s cloud infrastructure to achieve the highest possible availability of services for our customers. With experience of owning and resolving issues, you will champion the use of best practice within the support teams to quickly and effectively close-out customer issues.
Please note that these roles participate in out-of-hours escalation.
Our infrastructure is delivered using technologies from VMware (vCloud), OpenStack and hosted on Unified Computing Systems (UCS). You will need strong Linux skills and as well as experience in supporting various database products.
You will work with all levels of technical support from NOC, Infrastructure Engineers, DevOps and Architects and your ability to work with each of these teams is key to the success of this role.
This position embraces Agile principles and adheres to ITSM standards. You will need to be adaptable and forward thinking in terms of supporting or assisting other engineers to provide end to end support.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Excellent technical level and exposure to:
- Large scale virtualisation –VMware vSphere
- Core DC technologies – servers, networks and storage (SAN)
- Operating Systems – Windows and Linux (RHEL and CentOS)
- Experience in supporting various database products (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
- Networks and Security – TCP/IP in multi-tier network infrastructure, routing, firewalling, switching, IPSEC, and SSL-VPN
- Networking technologies and protocols (Cisco next-gen Data Centre products and technologies is desirable)
- Operational support of critical 24/7 IT services
- Experienced in Service Management environments ideally aligned with ITIL.
- Excellent customer service/support with clear communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
- Experience of delivering informal training, webinars, and coaching colleagues
- Hands-on, self-organised, motivated to learn in a rapidly changing and innovative environment, a team player
Desirable:
- vCloud Director
- Other Linux expertise
- Scripting (Python, Bash, PERL, Ruby)
- Productivity tools (ElasticSearch, Hadoop, Zimbra & messaging)
Additional Information
This is a full time role is managed as part of UKCloud’s professional working day and participate in out-of-hours support activities (on-call), for which an allowance will be paid.
